Artist Statement
My art explores the intricate tapestry of human experience, delving into complex emotions and the enduring strength of the human spirit. I believe art serves as a powerful form of communication, overcoming the limitations of language to articulate the intangible aspects of our existence.
My work frequently integrates the figure and anatomy with both human and animal forms, creating symbolic dialogues that address themes of health, femininity, and the multifaceted dynamic of liberation and constraint that women navigate within our world. I aim to foster reflection on the perceptions of women's roles and experiences in our society.
The scale of my artwork, often life-size or larger, is a deliberate choice to immerse the viewer within the space of the piece. This physical presence, combined with the compelling forms created, encourages a visceral connection and invites viewers to see themselves in relation to the artwork and its narrative.
My chosen mediums, stoneware clay, plaster, and wax, harmonize deeply with the themes I explore. Their inherent malleability allows for expressive manipulation, yet they also present a delicate balance between control and surrender. This duality mirrors my own perceptions of life's inherent uncertainties and serves as a constant reminder that embracing vulnerability can be both challenging and ultimately liberating.
