Biography

Heather Higham is a ceramic and mixed-media artist currently completing her BFA at the Myers School of Art of The University of Akron with a concentration in ceramics and sculpture and minors in photography and art history.  Her practice is guided by a lifelong dedication to the arts and a pivotal shift in perspective following a chronic illness diagnosis in 2017.

Heather explores the intersection of motherhood, activism, and health through a symbolic narrative of human and animal forms.  By focusing on bodily autonomy and systemic pressures, she examines the physical and mental forces that have shaped women’s lives throughout history.

Heather has recently showcased work at The Groundhog Show in Akron and the YWCA of Mahoning Valley and has been recognized with multiple awards at the University of Akron’s Myers School of Art, including Best in Show in Shaping the World: Artistry in Three Dimensions Vol II (2024) and First Place in the 89th Annual Juried Student Exhibition (2025).  In 2022, she founded Summer Kitchen Ceramic Studio, https://www.summerkitchenceramicstudio.com/.
