Figurative Ceramics

Building solid in ceramics is an entirely different way of working than I have ever done prior to this point. It’s a ton of work and time commitment, but I think it’s worth it when creating large ceramic sculptures.

Throughout building this torso, each muscle group was learned and applied to both sides of the body. Once the muscles were finished, a thin layer of flesh was applied to the left side. The torso was cut horizontally into 4 pieces, hollowed out, and then reassembled and fired whole. After the bisque, an oxide wash was applied, and it was fired one final time.
